The mission of the S3IP Analytical and Diagnostics Laboratories, partially funded with a $21M NYS High Technology Commercialization award to Binghamton University's Small Scale Systems Integration and Packaging Center, is to enable interdisciplinary research and development opportunities for faculty, staff and students, while also providing the infrastructure for the commercialization of emerging microelectronic technologies for New York State. The Labs occupy 8,000 sq. ft on the first floor of the Biotechnologies Building at the Innovative Technologies Complex, and 900 sq. ft in the University’s Science II building. An open lab design allows benches to be reconfigured as new needs arise. Instrument Specialists provide instrument maintenance, user training, ongoing consultative assistance, expert operator services on request, and research collaboration, if desired. Laboratory Data Management provides web based scheduling of tools, verification and authorization of users, monitoring of actual usage, direct network access to some tools, usage records and billable hours, multi-terabyte central data storage, settable access permissions, network accessible from anywhere, and automatic backup to offline archive.
